Several months after the revelations about the inhumane conditions and exploitation of disabled people at the Temporary Placement Center in Badiceni, authorities report that funds have been allocated for repairs, and employees suspected of abuses are being investigated and face sanctions. The topic was discussed at today’s Parliament meeting, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n
The information was presented in full, after the president of the Communist and Socialist Bloc faction, Vlad Batrincea, repeatedly demanded the establishment of an investigative committee regarding the situation of the center in Badiceni. He also requested the general prosecutor and the minister of labor and social protection to be heard in full session.<\/p>\n\n
“I proposed these hearings two months ago, but so far no one has been held accountable. The public has not been informed about the measures taken. We demand the hearing of the Attorney General and the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, as well as the creation of an investigation committee”, emphasized Vlad Batrincea.<\/p>\n\n
The proposal of the socialist deputy did not garner the necessary number of votes to be accepted.<\/p>\n\n
In this context, Marina Morozova, the Vice President of the Parliamentary Commission for Social Protection, Health and Family, stated that the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection has initiated an internal investigation. “Employees suspected of degrading treatment towards beneficiaries will be sanctioned and suspended from their positions. We are talking about 24 people. Measures are being taken to prevent such situations, and the ministry is set to create a national registry of people placed in such centers”, the deputy declared.<\/p>\n\n
Regarding the degrading living conditions, the parliamentarian announced that the ministry has allocated 1.6 million lei for repairs and improvement of the infrastructure of the center in Badiceni.<\/p>\n\n
In March, Grigore Novac, the president of the Commission for Human Rights and Interethnic Relations, noted that, following a visit carried out together with representatives of the People’s Advocate Office, they found precarious conditions in the center.
