The National Archive will allow access to the files on the victims of political repression that were transferred from the special stores of the Security and Information Service (SIS) and the Ministry of the Interior (MI) from February. <\/p>\n
\u201cAccess to these files is now banned, even for persons who have direct connection with them,\u201d the director of the National Archive Petru Vicol stated for Info-Prim Neo. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe files received from the SIS and the MI are now ordered and processed. We have already received applications to allow access to them.<\/p>\n
More than 10,000 files on persons who had been subjected to political repression in 1920-1951 have been transferred to the National Archive. More files are to be transferred in February. About 15,000 files on the victims of political repression and approximately 48,000 files on persons who went through the filtering system will be kept at the National Archive. <\/p>\n
According to the SIS, about 31,600 persons had been convicted in cases concerning political matters in 1920-1951. Over 5,000 of them had been sentenced to death, while another 3,000 died in jails and remand centers. As many as 28,400 repressed persons have been rehabilitated so far. According to the files transferred to the MI, over 12,000 families received the status of victims of political repression.<\/p>\n
