Moldova will not be affected by the radiation cloud that appeared after the explosion at the Fukushima nuclear station, consider experts of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe cloud is moving to the east, towards the ocean. The probability that it will reach Moldova is rather low. This also depends on the height at which the cloud is,\u201d Constantin Gudima, scientist of the Academy of Sciences’ Applied Physics Institute, told a news conference.<\/p>\n
According to Nicolae Boboc, of the Ecology and Geography Institute, the winter monsoon takes the cloud from the continent to the ocean. If it had been summer, the monsoon would have taken it to the content and Russia would have been affected.<\/p>\n
The experts assured that Moldova cannot be struck by a quake of the same magnitude as the Japan earthquake, which could affect the nuclear plants located around Moldova – the Cernavoda plant in Romania and the Nikolaev plant in Ukraine. <\/p>\n
\u201cOnly 7 or 8 magnitude quakes are possible in the Vrancea area, but they cannot cause serious problems. The plant in Cernavoda is prepared for such quakes and we should not worry,\u201d said Vasile Alcaz, head of the Geology and Seismology Institute.<\/p>\n
