International gas prices, influenced by the conflict in the Middle East, necessitate tariff adjustments, argues the interim Minister of Energy, Dorin Junghietu. According to him, the increase requested by Energocom is determined by developments in external markets, and delaying tariff changes could affect the security of gas supply to the Republic of Moldova, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n

Dorin Junghietu states that the escalation of tensions around the Strait of Hormuz has significantly influenced energy markets, and the effects are also felt in the Republic of Moldova. The minister pointed out that the country purchases gas at international market prices and that these fluctuations have existed even during the period when there was dependence on a single supplier.<\/p>\n\n

According to the official, last year’s end forecasts indicated a price reduction starting from April, however, the situation changed following the intensification of tensions in the Middle East. “Today we have diversified sources and a functional market, but the price of gas continues to be influenced by global events”, stated the interim minister.<\/p>\n\n

Dorin Junghietu emphasized the need to change the methodology for setting tariffs, so that they can be adjusted quarterly, depending on market developments, and not just once a year. In his opinion, an adjustment during the summer would have a lesser impact on consumers than recovering any potential tariff deviations in the cold season.<\/p>\n\n
