During a year of the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, tens of thousands of people have been killed and injured. 20% of the sovereign territory of the neighboring country was occupied. A number of towns were razed to the ground and over 7 million people fled from the war. Nevertheless, it seems that Russia does not intend to withdraw even if it can suffer a defeat about which history will say a lot. The chairman of the Collation for Unity and Wellbeing (CUB) Igor Munteanu told a news conference that regardless of the reasons invoked by the leaders in Moscow, Russia will pay for the caused massacre, IPN reports.<\/p>\n
\u201cRussia does not deserve its place in the UN Security Council and in the OSCE. It is the symbol of terror. Russia is now dispersed, isolated and confused as it is under international sanctions and loses this war. Russia will pay for the economic, material and infrastructure losses and for the human lives,\u201d stated Igor Munteanu.<\/p>\n
General Vitalie Stoian in the same new conference said that Russia has its eye on the Republic of Moldova, especially because fighting on the front line will intensify in spring. The Ukrainian army is expected to stage land offensives so as to free the occupied territories. \u201cAs the European countries will provide military assistance to Ukraine, Russia will try to strengthen its military capabilities, devoting greater attention to the military industry, and will try to maintain its positions and to conquer others. The war continues. We will yet see who shows greater resilience and survives,\u201d stated Vitalie Stoian.<\/p>\n
Ex-minister of home affairs, general Victor Catan said that in such moments, the authorities should act more decisively. \u201cRussia planned actions against the EU community, against the Republic of Moldova, the most drastic hybrid actions that led to the extension of the economic, energy, political crises and the impoverishing of the population. Throughout the war, the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, being threatened with armed aggression by the Kremlin, being exposed to the provocative actions of the representatives of the separatist regime, protest rallies paid by members of criminal groups and pro-Russian parties\u00a0 de la Tiraspol, denied the imminent threat to Moldova\u2019s security and independence. But the state authorities are unable to organize an offensive against the attempts to destabilize the situation and to usurp the power,\u201d noted Victor Catan.<\/p>\n
General-major Victor \u021a\u0103rn\u0103 said the fear of war and the absence of alliances that can guarantee the country\u2019s security turned Moldova into the most fragile country of the region in terms of security. It is the target of hybrid attacks staged by the Russian Government and is close to destabilization, ousting of the power and chaos. The CUB considers the Moldovan Government should demilitarize the Transnistrian region by imposing sanctions on the Transnistrian leaders and businessmen who support the regime, imposing restrictions on business entities that import fuel into the region and provide the Russian troops in Transnistria with fuel and conducting an international inspection to see how much armament is there in Colbasna or at other arms depots in the region, protecting the national airspace by Poland\u2019s example etc.<\/p>\n
The CUB proposed a series of actions that should be taken urgently by the authorities, namely designing and applying a national strategy for strengthening the unity of the people, guaranteeing the rights and freedoms of the citizens, including on the left side of the Nistru, obtaining external guarantees from the development partners for ensuring the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Moldova, urgently instituting an international regime for monitoring the activities of the Operational Group of Russian Forces, etc.<\/p>\n
