An ambulance that meets the international standards and a number of medical devices were donated to the Clinical Hospital of the Health Ministry by the International Organization for Migration (IOM) with support from the U.S. Embassy, IPN reports.<\/p>\n
The Hospital\u2019s director Igor Kurov said that their institution the past few years has worked in difficult conditions due to the multiple crises and modern equipment has been permanently needed for easing the work of professionals.<\/p>\n
\u201cInitially, we went through the Covid-19 crisis, which was followed by the refugee crisis. Nevertheless, we have stood by our patients and looked for possibilities to improve the quality of the provided services. Last year, we managed to offer assistance to over 2,000 patients with COVID-19 and also helped the refugees who were hospitalized for medical care. We are lucky to have had the International Organization for Migration besides us during many years,\u201d stated Igor Kurov, noting that they now have a type A ambulance and medical devices for diagnosing, supervising and treating patients.<\/p>\n
Secretary of state of the Ministry of Health Alexandru Gasna\u0219 said the IOM has always provided assistance and this donation is an additional proof that it remains by the national authorities in hard times. \u201cThe International Organization for Migration is a serious partner that always responds to our initiatives. I would like to express my gratitude to the professionals who work here in rather difficult times to provide services of a high quality. This would not be possible without them,\u201d noted the functionary.<\/p>\n
IOM Emergency Coordinator Baars Margo Cara noted that it will be soon a year of the start of the war in Ukraine and in this difficult period the Republic of Moldova faced a large wave of migrants and the authorities had to act in conditions of continuous crisis.<\/p>\n
\u201cOver 770,000 people have passed through the Republic of Moldova, fleeing Ukraine, and 100,000 of these chose to stay here. \u201cWe want to applaud the enormous effort made by the authorities. With the assistance of the U.S. Embassy, we also managed to become involved and to help the Ministry of Health to handle this situation. We realize very well that these flows of people are a heavy burden for the country\u2019s budget. We managed to engage and to offer assistance so that over 18,000 people benefitted from screening and different treatment. In cooperation with the authorities, we helped 300 patients in this hospital alone. We are very glad that we can contribute again today through this donation that will serve not only the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, but also refugees,\u201d stated Baars Margo Cara.<\/p>\n
The ambulance and the medical devices were purchased with financing provided by the U.S. Embassy, with the direct contribution of the IOM.<\/p>\n
