The National Bank of Moldova concluded the year 2025 with total assets of 120.8 billion lei, slightly below the level recorded at the end of the previous year. At the same time, the institution increased the volume of cash in circulation by over 12%, halved the balance of BNM certificates, and reported a significant decrease in its own capital, IPN reports.<\/p>\n\n
According to BNM, the majority of assets are represented by foreign currency assets, which totaled 106.7 billion lei. Of these, investments in securities increased from 84.4 billion to 89.2 billion lei. In contrast, cash and foreign currency placements significantly decreased, from 18.9 billion to 13.3 billion lei.<\/p>\n\n
The value of the monetary gold held by the central bank has increased from 115.6 million to 175.5 million lei, while the assets at the International Monetary Fund have slightly decreased, from 4.16 billion to 4 billion lei.<\/p>\n\n
In terms of national currency assets, the largest increase was recorded in loans granted to banks and other institutions, which reached nearly 1.5 billion lei, compared to 188.2 million lei at the end of the previous year. On the other hand, the portfolio of securities issued by the Government decreased from 13.9 billion to 12.4 billion lei.<\/p>\n\n
On the liabilities side, the total debts of the BNM have slightly increased, from 112.3 billion to 113 billion lei. At the same time, the volume of the national currency in circulation reached 54.4 billion lei, increasing by approximately 5.9 billion lei in a year.<\/p>\n\n
At the same time, the value of the certificates issued by BNM has more than halved, from 9.8 billion to 4.2 billion lei.<\/p>\n\n
The capital and reserves have decreased from 9.46 billion to 7.81 billion lei, including due to the reduction of the reserve from exchange rate differences related to the revaluation of foreign currency stocks, which was 2.75 billion lei at the end of 2024 and reached zero on December 31, 2025.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
