The United States Congress is examining a bill aimed at strengthening the energy security of the Republic of Moldova and supporting the country’s efforts to reduce its dependence on Russian energy resources. The legislative initiative is supported by both the Republican and Democratic parties, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n
The bill, titled “Promoting Oversight With Energy Resilience for Moldova Act”, was put forward by congressmen Deborah Ross and Mike Lawler, co-chairs of the Moldova Group in the House of Representatives. According to the Ministry of Energy, the document provides for the deepening of cooperation between Moldova and the American authorities in the energy sector, as well as support for the development of infrastructure and renewable energy sources.<\/p>\n\n
The authors of the initiative mention that the project also aims to monitor the progress made by Moldova in the energy sector, as well as to facilitate the exchange of information on modern technologies. The Ministry of Energy believes that the initiative reflects the fact that the Republic of Moldova enjoys the support of both parties in the American Congress, and the progress made in recent years is recognized.<\/p>\n\n
According to the ministry, the United States is one of the country’s main partners in the energy sector. Among the projects under preparation is the construction of the Straseni-Gutinas overhead power line, funded by an American grant of approximately 130 million dollars.
