Expert Oleg Toporas said during the press conference that, following an analysis, the civic platform had identified direct contradictions between the current draft decision and Gagauzia\u2019s legal framework. He explained that the initial document introduces new conditions for forming the local Electoral Commission, such as the requirement to have at least seven members and mandatory vetting by the central authorities \u2014 mechanisms that are not found in the region\u2019s current legislation and could block the organization of the elections.<\/p>\n\n

In this context, Oleg Toporas presented an alternative draft decision, which he says preserves all of Gagauzia\u2019s prerogatives and will ensure that the elections are held without legal conflicts. He called on the deputies of the People\u2019s Assembly to examine both versions before making a decision.<\/p>\n\n

The alternative draft is based on the following principles: fully preserving Gagauzia\u2019s powers, ensuring full compliance with the Law on the Special Legal Status of the autonomous region, respecting the local Electoral Code, and ensuring that the elections are held without legal conflicts.<\/p>\n\n
