The European Union has unlocked more than \u20ac14 billion in funds for Hungary. The announcement was made by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen after Friday\u2019s meeting with Hungarian Prime Minister P\u00e9ter Magyar, during which she welcomed the progress made by the new government on outstanding reforms, IPN reports.<\/p>\n\n
The total amount of \u20ac14.2 billion consists of \u20ac10 billion in grants and loans from the EU recovery fund and \u20ac4.2 billion from cohesion funds. These financial resources had previously been frozen by Brussels over persistent concerns related to corruption and the rule of law under the previous government, led by Viktor Orban.<\/p>\n\n
P\u00e9ter Magyar said that the unlocking of these funds represents a shared success for Hungary and the European Union, stressing that he had negotiated firmly for every cent.
