In the Republic of Moldova, four more cases of Q fever have been confirmed, the diagnosis being established by the National Reference Laboratory for high-risk infections within the National Agency for Public Health. The announcement comes after, last week, the first eight cases of Q fever recorded in the country since 2017 were reported<\/a>, IPN reports.<\/p>\n\n

According to ANSP, the cases were registered in the municipality of Chisinau and in the districts of Criuleni, Calarasi, and Causeni, among individuals aged between 24 and 57 years old. The patients presented moderate forms of the disease, with fever, chills, general weakness, and respiratory symptoms. All are under treatment and medical supervision, and their condition is improving favorably.<\/p>\n\n

In this context, the authorities have intensified epidemiological surveillance measures and informed medical-sanitary institutions to increase vigilance in the early detection of suspected cases. At the same time, the National Agency for Food Safety was also notified, considering the zoonotic nature of the infection, to initiate the necessary investigation and control measures.<\/p>\n\n

Q Fever is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Coxiella burnetii, primarily transmitted by sheep, goats, and cattle. The infection can be contracted by inhaling contaminated particles, contact with infected animals, or consumption of raw milk and unpasteurized products.<\/p>\n\n

To prevent infection, specialists recommend maintaining hand hygiene after contact with animals, as well as using protective equipment when caring for them. Also, it is advisable to consume only pasteurized or boiled milk, avoid dairy products from unauthorized sources, and properly manage animal waste.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
