The European Court of Human Rights has condemned the Russian Federation for violating the right to private life of a young man from the Camenca region, after his sensitive medical data were disclosed and abusively used in documents issued by the Tiraspol structures. Following the finding of the violation, the ECHR obliged the Russian Federation to pay damages of 11,000 euros, a sum that includes both moral damage and representation costs, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n
According to the decision pronounced in the case “V.I. v. Republic of Moldova and Russia”, the claimant’s psychiatric diagnosis was included in an alleged military booklet and subsequently came to the knowledge of third parties, directly affecting his professional life. The young man was prevented for several years from getting a job because of this information, a fact considered by the Court as a serious interference in his private life.<\/p>\n\n
The claimant was assisted in this process by Promo-LEX lawyers, who argued that the exposure of medical data occurred in the context of the administrative and military system in the Transnistrian region, not in accordance with European standards for the protection of human rights. The ECHR reiterated that the so-called instances on the left bank cannot be considered part of a judicial system compatible with the European Convention on Human Rights.<\/p>\n\n
