The lack of functional wastewater treatment plants directly reflects in the poor quality of river water, including the Prut River, and the problem persists both in the residential and economic sectors. The statement belongs to the president of the Academy “AI-Vision for Democracy and European Integration”, Ina Coseru, and was made during the public debate<\/a> “The Prut River today: Environmental situation and influencing factors”, organized by the IPN Press Agency. According to the expert, the lack of modern infrastructure for wastewater treatment and waste management significantly contributes to the degradation of water resources.<\/p>\n\n

Ina Coseru emphasized the need to develop an efficient network of sewage treatment plants in all localities in the Prut river basin. According to her, the problem does not only concern households, but also economic enterprises, many of which do not have high-performance systems for treating wastewater.<\/p>\n\n

“We need functional wastewater treatment plants throughout the country, serving both the residential and economic sectors. We must ensure that all localities in the Prut river basin, all the districts stretching along the river, are equipped with wastewater treatment plants. The lack of wastewater treatment plants is also a problem in the economic sector, with very few companies having wastewater treatment systems,” said the president of the “AI-Vision for Democracy and European Integration” Academy.<\/p>\n\n

Furthermore, according to Inei Co\u0219eru, the lack of efficient waste collection systems leads to the emergence of numerous unauthorized landfills, where substances dangerous to ecosystems are also stored.<\/p>\n\n

“Another massive source of pollution are the landfills, places where people throw their household waste. In localities, there is no waste collection and sorting system, that’s why people throw garbage everywhere. In unauthorized landfills, there are different categories of waste. Besides household waste, there are extremely harmful sources of pollution for the environment and water,” the expert pointed out.<\/p>\n\n

The public debate on the topic: “The Prut River today: Environmental situation and influencing factors”, is organized by the IPN Press Agency within the project “Green justice for a protected environment and sustainable communities in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented by the EcoContact AO, with the support of Sweden.<\/p>\n\n
