According to the Romanian press, at the time of the avalanche, there were several tourists in the area who were skiing outside the designated areas. The mountain rescuers intervened quickly, and the victim was found in cardiac arrest. Despite resuscitation efforts, the man could not be saved. A SMURD helicopter was sent to the scene, however, the doctors confirmed the person’s death.<\/p>\n\n

Raed Arafat, the head of the Department for Emergency Situations in Romania, clarified for the press that the deceased man was an officer in the Emergency Situations Inspectorate of Brasov.<\/p>\n\n

Costilei Valley is a popular area for tourists who ski off the beaten tracks. Due to heavy snowfall and negative temperatures, the Mountain Rescue Service has issued a warning about the risk of avalanches at over 1800 meters altitude.
