Russia’s President Vladimir Putin has promulgated a law defining the concept of “genocide against the Soviet people” committed during World War II, IPN reports.<\/p>\n\n

A Kremlin press release says the federal law will regulate the preservation of the memory, security and maintenance of the graves of the victims of that genocide. It also establishes a mechanism to search for burial sites and mass graves to honor the victims.<\/p>\n\n

According to statistics, more than 26 million citizens of the former USSR, including eight million soldiers, died during World War II.<\/p>\n\n
