The elections for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia, scheduled for June 21, will take place, state the members of the presidium of the legislative body from Comrat. In a statement adopted, they accuse the central authorities of blocking the activity of the Central Electoral Commission of Gagauzia by refusing to update the register of legal entities, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n

The Presidium has characterized the actions of the central authorities as “destructive”, arguing that they are aimed at limiting the rights and freedoms of the Gagauz population. According to the statement, administrative obstacles directly affect the financing of the scrutiny process.<\/p>\n\n

At the same time, the representatives of the People’s Assembly assure that the elections will take place on schedule, and the necessary resources will be allocated in accordance with the current legislation.<\/p>\n\n

The People’s Assembly of Gagauzia decided<\/a> on March 17 to establish a new electoral body and set the election date for June 21, after the Supreme Court of Justice had previously suspended some decisions regarding its composition, blocking the conduct of the poll scheduled for March.<\/p>\n\n

The Comrat territorial office of the State Chancellery has challenged<\/a> the decision of the Popular Assembly of Gagauzia, stating that the acts contravene the Constitution and national legislation and exceed the competences of the autonomous body.
