The legal team of the Alternativa Bloc plans to challenge at the Constitutional Court the law granting the Investment Projects Promotion Council the authority to revoke TV station licenses. The announcement was made by former Prime Minister Ion Chicu, one of the bloc\u2019s leaders, IPN reports.<\/p>\n\n
Ion Chicu criticized the lack of a free press in the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n\n
\u201cThere is no democracy, and a country cannot prosper without a free press,\u201d Chicu stated.<\/p>\n\n
On March 27, the Council for the Promotion of Investment Projects of National Importance (CPPIIN) announced the suspension of TVC21\u2019s license, citing failure to submit complete documents and information regarding administrative operations.<\/p>\n\n
The Independent Journalism Center (CJI) and other media NGOs expressed concern over the decision. The CJI emphasized that \u201cthe legal mechanism applied clearly contradicts international standards.\u201d \n<\/p>\n\n
The CJI’s statement noted that imposing such a serious restriction \u201cconstitutes a grave interference with the right to freedom of expression.\u201d<\/p>\n\n
Previously, other TV and radio stations also lost their licenses, with the Council justifying most decisions by pointing to incomplete documentation regarding financial sources and transactions allegedly linking the outlets to the Plahotniuc-Shor group.<\/p>\n\n
