The investigation regarding the truck loaded with weapons, detected at the end of November at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing point, is in full swing, and more information could be made public soon. This is stated by the head of the Customs Service, Radu Vrabie. According to him, following this case, the authorities are looking for solutions to identify funds to equip all border crossing points with modern scanners, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n
The Head of the Customs Service stated that the investigation into the case of the truck with weapons is being managed by prosecutors and is in an advanced stage. “Currently, operational and investigative actions are being taken that we cannot disclose. But progress has been made on this case. We will soon be able to communicate more to the public, but I leave that to the discretion of my colleagues from the prosecution”, said Radu Vrabie during the “Punctul pe Azi” show on TVR Moldova.<\/p>\n\n
The Head of Customs stated that the institution has scanners at several border crossing points, but the authorities are looking for resources to expand the scanning system. “We have scanners at the border with Romania at Costesti-Stanca, Leuseni, Sculeni and Giurgiulesti. At the border with Ukraine, we have scanners at Tudora-Palanca. We are in the process of finding solutions to purchase additional scanners for border crossing points”, added Radu Vrabie.<\/p>\n\n
At the same time, he explained that the scanning of transport means is not done automatically for all vehicles, but based on a risk analysis, to avoid blocking the flow of goods at the border.<\/p>\n\n
“The scanning of trucks and buses is based on risk analysis criteria. We, as an institution, also aim to facilitate trade. Therefore, we try to help economic agents not to go through the scanning process, otherwise, we would hinder the import\/export process. If there are information from other entities, they enter our risk database and then we proceed to the scanning method”, explained the head of the Customs Service.<\/p>\n\n
At the end of November, a truck carrying weapons was stopped at the Albi\u021ba-Leu\u0219eni Customs.
