This was announced by the Hungarian Foreign Minister, P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 has stated that Budapest is requesting the repeal of the REPowerEU regulation, considering that it was adopted in violation of European Union legislation. The Hungarian Minister emphasized that the cessation of energy imports should only be decided through sanctions unanimously adopted by all member states and accused that the regulation was promoted under the pretext of a commercial policy measure.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Hungarian Minister P\u00e9ter Szijj\u00e1rt\u00f3 has stated that EU treaties clearly establish that each member state independently decides on its energy sources and suppliers. He argues that the principle of energy solidarity, which obliges the Union to ensure the security of supply for all member states, has been violated in the case of Hungary, because alternatives to Russian gas are more expensive and less reliable.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last week, the EU Council <a href=\"https:\/\/ipn.md\/en\/the-eu-has-decided-on-the-gradual-and-permanent-elimination-of-russian-gas-imports\/\">approved<\/a> the REPowerEU political agreement to phase out gas imports from Russia: liquefied gas will be banned from the beginning of next year and pipeline gas by autumn 2027. The agreement, published on January 26 in the Official Journal, entered into force the following day.
