Almost 20,800 people have acquired the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova in the last three years, half of them obtaining citizenship in 2024. Last year alone, about 4,500 applicants received the Moldovan passport. In a response given to IPN, the Public Services Agency specified that the applicants are predominantly citizens of the Russian Federation, Ukraine and the Republic of Belarus, as well as persons with undetermined legal status.<\/p>\n\n
The highest number of people obtained the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova in 2024 \u2013 10,227. In 2023, citizenship was granted to 6,093 individuals, and last year \u2013 to 4,454 applicants.<\/p>\n\n
At the same time, during the period 2023-2025, 1,029 applications for acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova were rejected. Among the reasons cited are the fact that the applicants did not rectify in time the nonconformities in the submitted documents, as well as situations where they did not meet the legal conditions for obtaining citizenship.<\/p>\n\n
Some individuals have voluntarily withdrawn their applications, requesting the termination of the review process. There were also cases where applicants presented documents whose origin could not be determined, this fact being confirmed after verifying their authenticity by consulting the competent authorities abroad.<\/p>\n\n
ASP clarifies that, in the recent period, determined by the regional context and the uncertainties generated by the war in Ukraine, the authorities have intensified checks regarding the compliance with legal conditions and the authenticity of the submitted documents. The measures were necessary to prevent fraud and to ensure the correctness of the citizenship acquisition process.<\/p>\n\n
In the past three years, 1,379 people have renounced their citizenship of the Republic of Moldova. Among the most common reasons are the acquisition of citizenship of another state that does not allow or limits dual citizenship. Also, some have renounced due to legal or professional requirements for access to public functions, military careers, or other fields that require exclusive citizenship of the state of residence.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
