Contacted by IPN, Sergiu Tofilat, an expert in the energy field, explained that the Electric Energy Balancing Market is designed to manage the amounts of energy needed to maintain balance in the system. It allows for covering the differences between actual consumption and that planned by suppliers: if consumption exceeds the predicted amount, additional energy can be purchased through the market, and if it is less, power plants reduce production and the surplus is taken over and financially compensated. In this way, the market ensures the adjustment and payment of balancing energy necessary for the stable and safe operation of the energy system.<\/p>\n\n
The Electric Energy Balancing Market, together with the System Services Market, was launched on September 22, 2025, based on the amendments made to the Electric Energy Market Rules and the regulatory framework approved by the National Agency for Energy Regulation. The authorities specify that the implementation of these mechanisms represents an important stage for the consolidation and secure operation of the wholesale electric energy market in the Republic of Moldova.<\/p>\n\n
