A surgical intervention, carried out for the first time at the Oncology Institute of the Republic of Moldova, has allowed a woman from Chisinau, diagnosed with a malignant tumor, to maintain her mobility after half of her pelvis was removed, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n
The patient is 63 years old and was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in the pelvis, about ten years after treatment for cervical cancer. The tumor removal surgery, followed by hip joint prosthesis, allowed the preservation of the leg. Four months after the surgery, the patient is able to move on her own and can undergo chemotherapy, an essential part of oncological treatment.<\/p>\n\n
“The accomplishment of this operation marks an important moment in the development of oncological surgery in the Republic of Moldova and opens new treatment perspectives for oncological patients with rare and severe pathologies, for whom the therapeutic options were until recently limited”, is stated in a press release from the institution.<\/p>\n\n
