The European Commission condemns the violation of Moldova’s airspace by Russian drones and reaffirms its support for strengthening the country’s defense capabilities, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n
The Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Anouar El Anouni, stated on Wednesday, at a press conference, that the recent violation of Moldovan airspace represents a new deliberate challenge from Russia and is part of a broader pattern of Russian drones penetrating EU airspace.<\/p>\n\n
“An action unprecedented in its scope and determination,” emphasized Anouar El Anouni.<\/p>\n\n
The spokesperson conveyed the firm message of the European Union, stating that it will continue to support Moldova in strengthening its defense capabilities.<\/p>\n\n
“We have a solid cooperation with Moldova, which will intensify, including through the European Instrument for Peace – a support that is ongoing and continuously growing, both qualitatively and quantitatively, starting from 2021,” noted Anouar El Anouni.<\/p>\n\n
He also mentioned the EU Partnership Mission, which will continue to provide advice in countering hybrid threats.<\/p>\n\n
At the same press conference, the main spokesperson for the European Commission, Paula Pinho, quoted from the statement of President Ursula von der Leyen, made after the meeting of the Coalition of Will.<\/p>\n\n
The official emphasized that Russia is intensifying its attacks on Kiev, using missiles and drones that violate Moldovan and Romanian airspace, precisely at the moments when Europe’s allies are fully engaged in identifying a path towards a just and sustainable peace in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n
According to the President of the European Commission, this is a new signal that “Ukraine’s security is Europe’s security, just as the security of neighboring countries is.”<\/p>\n\n
The agreed ambassador of the Russian Federation, Oleg Ozerov, was summoned on Wednesday to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after, on November 25, at least six drones flew over the airspace of the Republic of Moldova.
