The President of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has imposed sanctions against the two largest oil companies in the Russian Federation – Rosneft and Lukoil – in response to the latter’s military aggression against Ukraine, reports IPN.<\/p>\n\n
The measures represent the first sanctions imposed by President Donald Trump against Moscow since his return to the White House, in January, and are part of an effort intended to pressure Russia into accepting a ceasefire in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n
The sanctions were imposed following the failure of planned diplomatic negotiations between the USA and Russia. The leaders of the two countries were supposed to meet in Budapest, however, the White House subsequently announced the cancellation of the summit.<\/p>\n\n
At the same time, Donald Trump received the NATO Secretary General, Mark Rutte, for a visit at the White House and described the measure imposed on Moscow as “a very important day in what we do”, referring to the cessation of the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n\n
