The danger of foreign interference aimed at undermining the democratic process in Moldova was underlined Thursday by President Maia Sandu, during a meeting with representatives of international organizations that will monitor the September 28 parliamentary elections.<\/p>\n\n

Noting the firm and coordinated position of the state institutions to counter any attempt to manipulate the electoral process, the head of state also urged observers to show maximum vigilance to ensure that the will of the voters is respected, which is freely expressed in the elections, IPN reports.<\/p>\n\n

“The Moldovans must decide for the Moldovans,” Maia Sandu said, according to a press release issued by the presidency.<\/p>\n\n

The head of state cited the illegal financing of anti-European forces as the main instrument of interference. She also referred to vote-buying networks coordinated by criminal groups, massive disinformation campaigns, cyberattacks, paid protests and attempts to divide society.<\/p>\n\n

The accuracy of the September 28 parliamentary elections will be monitored by several observers, including representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (pace) and the European network of election monitoring organisations (ENEMO).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
