Working group between Parliament and People’s Assembly of Gagauzia convenes

The working group between Parliament and the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia held its first meeting. The participants agreed the activity principles, based on responsibility, tolerance and confidence, which are aimed at identifying efficient solutions. Head of Parliament Andrian Candu expressed his confidence that the newly created platform will ensure a permanent and continuous dialogue between the authorities so as ensure the harmonization of the legislation with regard to the special status of Gagauzia and the region’s development, IPN reports.

According to the Parliament’s press service, Andrian Candu said the legislature will support the activity of the working group, the participation by MPs from all the parliamentary groups in the discussion being a first signal in this regard. “In fact, the purpose of this platform, besides identifying practical solutions, is to restore confidence between the sides. If such a platform is successful, we will afterward multiply it so as to make use of it within projects related to the Transnistrian region,” stated the Speaker.

The chairman of the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia Dmitry Constantinov said that Gagauzia has high expectations of this working group. “I’m convinced that we will continue to develop the communication between Chisinau and Comrat so that the relations are the best ones and we could choose a path of coexistence in peace and harmony,” he stated.

The working group was created by a Parliament decision of November 20, 2015 on the initiative of Andrian Candu. Its goal is to ensure mechanisms for cooperation between Moldova’s Parliament and the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia.
