The school students will go on the winter vacation on December 25 and will return to classes on January 9. The announcement was made by the head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb on December 16, IPN reports.

Tatiana Tverdohleb said that during the vacation the education institutions will not be supplied with heat so as to make savings.

The Ministry of Education shortened the vacations this year. The winter vacation lasted for four days instead of a week, from October 31 until November 3. The spring vacation, between March 7 and March 11, will be by two days shorter. The length of the Easter and Christmas vacations remained unchanged.

According to the Ministry of Education, the length of school vacations was modified in accordance with the Education Law, which specifies that the academic year has 35 weeks. The modification was made following requests from teachers.
