Vlad Filat: PCRM is responsible for situation in Gagauzia

The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat described the intention of the Gagauz authorities to hold two referendums in the region this Sunday as attempt to destabilize the situation in southern Moldova. He said the responsibility for the created situation is borne by the Communist Party (PCRM) that represents the parliamentary opposition. The ex-Premier made such statements in an interview for the state information agency Moldpres, quoted by IPN.

“The party that I have the honor to head already stated its opinion on the issue and our opinion remains unchanged. We witness an attempt to destabilize the situation in the southern districts and I firmly believe that the responsibility for the created situation is borne by the Communist Party. This party not only openly supported the referendum idea. It also took measures that formed the basis for such manifestations. I mean the so-called civic congress of 2011, the campaign to undermine the state symbols, the boycotting of the Parliament sittings, separation of society according to ethnical criteria, etc. These things created a certain state of spirit and gave impetus to certain trends in Gagauzia,” stated Vlad Filat.

According to him, even if it is an opposition party, the PCRM is obliged to put the state interests above everything. “The Communists, who repeatedly said that they are patriots and protectors of the statehood, failed this test. I don’t know if they can be named at least political opportunists. It’s rather a group guided by narrow political interests that have nothing in common with the state interests. I hope the people saw it and will draw conclusions. The country’s fate and the people’s trust cannot be entrusted to political adventurers who are ready to destroy everything around in order to reach their narrow goals,” said the Liberal-Democratic leader.

Vlad Filat anticipated that this year the PCRM, as well as other political forces, will take other steps aimed at worsening the situation in the country. “Besides being an electoral year, 2014 is also an important year for the country’s European course. This year our people are to start travelling to the EU visa-free. We are also to sign the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the EU. It’s a decisive year for our European future, for the free, democratic and prosperous future of our people. The Communists, who are against the European integration, will make everything possible to prevent us from achieving these objectives, by manipulation, misinformation, etc,” he stated..
