The director of the Municipal Children’s Hospital “Valentin Ignatenco” Nicolae Starciuc received a severe reprimand from the municipal Health Division for the operations performed with industrial equipment. The announcement was made by the Division’s head Mihai Moldovanu in the July 29 meeting of the Chisinau City Hall officials, IPN reports.
Mihai Moldovanu said a commission investigated the case and established that the hospital’s director was to blame for defective management of the institution. According to the commission, Nicolae Starciuc bears overall responsibility for the irregularities identified at the hospital, especially for lack of exactingness when fulfilling his duties.
Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said it is regrettable that this case was reported by the foreign media. The incident affected not only the hospital’s image, but the country’s image too.
A film showing doctors of “Valentin Ignatenco” Hospital using an industrial drill during surgery appeared on the Internet on July 22. In reaction, a number of competent bodies launched inquiries into this case.
