Representatives of the National Unity Bloc that consists of 22 NGOs will convoke the People’s Council - 2 in Chisinau on March 27, based on the People’s Council of 1918. The event will involve famous personalities proposed and selected by vote. On March 27, there will be held the opening session of the unionists’ representative forum, IPN reports.
In a news conference at IPN, the National Unity Bloc’s coordinator Constantin Codreanu said the initiative to launch the People’s Council was put forward following an increase in the number of unionists in Moldova. “The People’s Council - 2 wasn’t created as an alternative to something or as a force that opposes another project and does not pursue electoral goals. The People’s Council – 2 aims to launch soon a series of activities to lobby, press and persuade the population and those who hold executive posts on both sides of the Prut to take concrete steps towards the union,” he stated.
According to him, a website www.sfatultarii.md was launched to ensure greater transparency in the process of selecting persons who will form part of the representative forum of the unionists. On this platform, there is a list of applicants for member of the People’s Council. The applicants can be voted by any visitor. Through the agency of two publications - “Literature si Arta” (“Literature and Arts”) and “Timpul” (“Time”) – persons can be fielded to form part of the forum.
Writer Nicolae Dabija, who is a member of the National Council of the Union of 1991, considers that now Moldova is a failed state that can no longer be resuscitated. “No matter how hard our politicians try to pretend that this state breathes, Moldova failed to deliver the promise. Our slogan is “From the successful Republic of Moldova to the Republic of Moldova that forms part of Romania”, from where it was torn away as a result of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact. There is the Prut between us and I think that this is an internal river. It depends on us how we set the border between us and us,” he said.
The writer also said that one of the goals is to create a powerful unionist current. “We, civil society, must not bank on the politicians. They pursue other goals. It is very important to remove the barbed wire not from the Prut, but rather from the mentality of the Bessarabian people,” stated Nicolae Dabija.
In the afternoon of March 27, a unionist march will be mounted along Stefan cel Mare Blvd. in Chisinau. “On March 27, we will give the start of a better life by initiating this march. We speak already not about the moral aspect of the union, but about a saving door for Moldova, which is the only solution for ensuring better living standards,” said Anatol Ursu, head of the unionist movement “Moldova’s Youth”.
The march starts near the National Opera House “Maria Biesu” at 1pm.
