Members of the Union Council called on the extraparliamentary and civic pro-Romanian forces to join and form a Romanian, unionist and pro-European platform. On March 24, they called on all those who consider themselves Romanians to join in the activities that will be staged on March 27, when it is 97 years of Bessarabia’s Union with Romania, IPN reports.
In a news conference at IPN, Vitalia Pavlicenco, who heads the National Liberal Party and is a member of the Union Council, said the union of the national Romanian, democratic, pro-European, reformist and unionist forces is opportune now that the geopolitical situation can worsen, especially in the context of the Ukrainian crisis. “We, the Union Council, consider that responsible cooperation must exist between the extraparliamentary parties and the national entities of the NGO sector and the coming days offer an opportunity in this respect. I thus call on everyone to come to the laying of flowers at the monument to Stephan the Great at 10am on March 27. The event will involve unionists from all the districts,” she stated.
The chairman of the 1992 War Veterans Association “Tiras-Tighina” Anatolie Caraman, who is a member of the Council, said the Republic of Moldova faces a great danger caused by the Russian empire and this danger can be overcome only by collective defense and entry into NATO. “The reunification of the country by Great Romania is the shortest way to NATO and the EU. I call upon the MPs of Moldova to follow the example of the members of the People’s Council of 1918,” he stated.
The head of the Foundation “Turnul Dezrobirii Basarabiei” Timotei Turcanu said that all the political forces that have been in power until now brought the state close to failure by their actions. Among the critical problems faced by Moldova are corruption, poverty and migration and these became chronic already. The media war taking place in the country caused disappointment and division in society. This threatens state security, but the union can solve a series of the existing problems.
The members of the Union Council said that on March 27 they will come together in Europe Square in the central park of Chisinau and will then go to the monument to Stephan the Great to lay flowers.
