A man in his 30s was hit mortally by a train near the Ghidighici railway station at about 2am last night. The information was confirmed for IPN by the Chisinau Police Division’s press officer Natalia Stati.

The body was taken to the Medical Examinations Center. Legal action was taken in this case.

Contacted by IPN for details, spokesman for Moldova’s Railways Constantin Olteanu said the accident occurred in unclear circumstances as the struck man was lying down on rail tracks. The engine driver signaled to the man, including verbally, but the impact could not be avoided. The man didn’t have identification papers on him and hasn’t been yet identified.

The train involved in the accident didn’t carry passengers.
