Teaching process is of a poor quality, but Baccalaureate exams are tough, opinion

The education system in the Republic of Moldova witnesses a poor teaching process and poor training of students, but the Baccalaureate exams are tough . These things should be balanced, Valentin Beniuc, rector of the Institute of International Relations, was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Direct access” on NTV Moldova channel.

Valentin Beniuc noted different exam levels should be instituted for admission to universities and to vocational schools.

The rector wondered how can it happen that a student taught by teachers duding 12 years cannot answer several questions in the Baccalaureate exam. The qualifications of teachers could be inappropriate and all the efforts should be concentrated on training the teaching staff, on their professional formation. “The Baccalaureate exams are not the biggest problem. The training level should be correlated with exam levels and with the diplomas with which these exams end,” stated Valentin Beniuc.

Corneliu Popovici, adviser to the President on education, culture and research, said the Baccalaureate exams annually produce unpleasant surprises. It’s certain that the lyceum studies should culminate with the taking of exams, but there are a series of problems that generate contradictory discussions in society and serious questions as to the exam organization process. “I refer primarily to the quality of tests,” he noted.

According to the adviser, the capacity of the assessors of the Baccalaureate exam results is open to question. Time has come for someone to bear responsibility for the organization of the Baccalaureate exams and the quality of the carried out assessments.
