For the preparation of the thematic lesson, the Ministry of Education and Research will organize, from August 17-28, online methodological workshops for teaching staff. During these, teachers will receive supportive educational resources and recommendations on how to conduct activities.

“The Ministry encourages all teaching staff to participate in workshops and to use the resources made available, so that the first lesson of the new school year contributes to the formation of a profound understanding of the independence of the Republic of Moldova as a value that unites generations around freedom, democracy, human rights and responsibility for the common good”, mentioned Valentina Olaru, State Secretary at the MEC.

The activities are part of the Decade of National Values and are included in the National Program “The Independence that unites us. Moldova-35”, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the proclamation of the independence of the Republic of Moldova.

In a press briefing held at the Parliament alongside the deputies of the Socialist Party, the mayor of Iserlia commune, Liudmila Rotari, stated that the decision affects the community, as the nearest school teaching in Russian is over 25 kilometers away, and the roads are in a difficult state. According to the mayor, the residents of the four villages of the commune request the preservation of the gymnasium.

Irina Porubscaia, mother of two students, says that transferring the children would create difficulties, including because of the time spent on the road. She claims that the commute to the “A. S. Pushkin” High School in Basarabeasca could take at least an hour daily.

In this context, the Ministry of Education specifies that, in the process of reorganizing educational institutions, consideration is given to the existence of another educational institution located within a distance of up to 20 kilometers.

According to the MEC, the optimal solution for the students from the village of Iserlia is to continue their studies at the Troițcoe Gymnasium in the Cimislia district, with teaching in Russian, located approximately 15 kilometers away. The Ministry specifies that it will provide school transportation for students. At the request of the parents, they can also be transferred to the “A. S. Pushkin” Theoretical High School in the city of Basarabeasca, located about 25 kilometers away, provided that transportation is ensured.

The establishment of the state aid scheme was approved on Wednesday by the Government. According to the project, companies will be able to submit compensation applications from July 20 to September 10, through an electronic form available on the Entrepreneurship Development Organization’s page. The applications must be accompanied by the supporting documents provided by the mechanism.

Authorities estimate that, this year, approximately 130 enterprises will be able to benefit from the scheme for the practical training of about two thousand students.

In dual education, students combine theoretical preparation in educational institutions with practical training in companies, under the guidance of a master-instructor. In the academic year 2025-2026, about 3,300 students are being trained through this system, in partnership with 230 companies.

According to authorities, approximately 60% of dual education graduates find employment after completing their studies, compared to about 30% in the case of traditional vocational education.

For the academic year 2026-2027, 2,669 budgetary places have been allocated for dual education, and over 300 companies have expressed their willingness to train students within more than 70 vocational training programs.

The Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education and Research, Valentina Olaru, stated that the new methodology proposes a clearer, more coherent evaluation system, closer to the real needs of students and teachers. Valentina Olaru emphasized that this change facilitates the transition to middle school, where evaluation is done exclusively through grading.

The approval of the methodology was preceded by a piloting process carried out throughout the previous academic year. The grading evaluation was tested in 268 educational institutions with teaching in Romanian and Russian languages.

According to the DGETS, the large number of applications submitted shows the interest of middle school graduates in the educational offer of high schools in the city of Chisinau. For the 2026 admission session, the high schools in the municipality have planned 233 classes and 5,822 places, the most extensive offer in recent years.

During the period of July 23-25, the admission committees will evaluate the submitted files and will calculate the competition averages. The results will be displayed on July 27, and the admitted candidates will confirm the obtained place during the period of July 28-30, by presenting the documents to the educational institution.

Students who are not admitted in the first stage will be able to participate in the second stage, scheduled for the period 3-14 August.

Candidates can choose between 13 centers of excellence, including two private ones, 34 colleges, six of which are private, the Integrated Law Enforcement Training Center, and 31 vocational schools. Of the state-funded places, 2,866 are for dual education, 732 more than last year.

The first stage of admission will be held until August 9 in colleges and centers of excellence, respectively until August 16 in vocational schools. The second stage is scheduled for August 13-23 for colleges and centers of excellence, and for vocational schools for August 20-28.

The Ministry announces that students who did not pass the gymnasium graduation exam can also participate in the admission competition for two-year programs, which offer them the opportunity to obtain a professional qualification.

In the two-year programs, most places were allocated for the qualification of car mechanic, followed by that of cook. A large number of places are also available for electric and gas welders-fitters, confectioners and seamstresses, professions for which the authorities still estimate a high demand on the labor market.

In the three-year programs, organized on the basis of secondary school studies, most budgetary places are available for IT qualifications, such as computer technical support operator and data entry and processing operator. This is followed by the specializations of auto electrician-electronician and auto mechanic, electrician and locksmith-electrician, as well as the professions of cook, waiter, construction electrician and photovoltaic system installer.

The gold medal was won by Stepan Andrei, a student of the “N. V. Gogol” Theoretical High School in Chisinau. The silver medals were obtained by Oana Furculita and Bogdan Leahu, students of the “Orizont” Theoretical High School in Durlesti, while the bronze medal was awarded to Vladimir Caras, a student of the “N. V. Gogol” Theoretical High School in Chisinau.

The competition was attended by 364 students from 93 countries. The Republic of Moldova was represented by four Olympians, accompanied by Ion Bulimestru, a PhD in Chemistry and university lecturer at the State University of Moldova, and Vasilii Graur, a PhD in Chemistry and scientific researcher at the same institution.

The Ministry of Education and Research has sent congratulations to the awarded students, their teachers and parents. At the same time, the institution expressed gratitude to the members of the Republican Olympic Council for Chemistry for their involvement in the preparation of the national team.

Mihai Bologan, the director of the sociological company IData, who conducted the study, pointed out that, in physical exercises, the little ones scored 85%, and in mathematics, 84%. Children also do well in reading and writing, accumulating a score of 82%.

The difficulties arise, however, in how they control their emotions and how they get along with others, where the score was the lowest, at 75%. The hardest thing for them is to make new friends and talk about it, the score being the lowest here – only 49%. Experts argue that educators need to emphasize kindness and friendship and how children can resolve their quarrels and grievances.

The study also shows large differences in the regions of the country. The most developed are the preschoolers from Chisinau with 85%, followed by those from the center and south. At the other end of the list are the children from the north, with a score of 77%. Furthermore, the study shows that girls are more prepared than boys, and children from urban areas rank ahead of those from villages by about 6 percentage points.

Special attention has been given to children with special needs. They scored 51% in terms of preparation, and they found managing emotions the most difficult, at 39%. Only a quarter of them passed the school test. Specialists, however, say that the tests were the same for everyone and were not adapted for them, so the state needs to change the way these children are taught and helped to transition to school.

All these data were gathered after specialists went to kindergartens, tested the children through games, and had conversations with parents. For a child to be considered ready for school, they had to pass the threshold of 66%.

The research was conducted in the spring on a representative sample of 1,768 children aged between 6 and 7 years old from 120 kindergartens across the country.

The investments, estimated at about one million lei for each institution, are made within a partnership between the Ministry of Education and Research and Caritas Czech Republic – Chisinau Branch, and are funded by European funds. The works will be carried out at Gymnasium No. 68 from Dobrogea village, Sangera city, “Alexei Mateevici” Theoretical High School from Cainari city, Causeni district, “Alexandr Pushkin” Gymnasium from Cimislia city and Raciula Gymnasium from Calarasi district.

According to the data presented by the MEC at the end of last year, 80 educational institutions in the country only had outdoor sanitary blocks. Technical projects have been developed for most of them, however, in some schools, the arrangement of indoor sanitary groups is not possible due to the lack of sewage.

According to the organizers, participants will have at their disposal reading lists prepared by the 27 branches of the Municipal Library, which bring together works from the school curriculum, books recommended by teachers and librarians, as well as contemporary titles. Thus, each student will be able to choose their books based on age, preferences and level of difficulty.

During the competition, which will run until August 31, participants will track their progress in the personal account created upon registration, which is available on the website of the Municipal Library “B. P. Hasdeu”. There they will see what books they have borrowed and read, and they will be able to leave impressions and recommendations for other readers. Registration for the competition is done at any of the 27 branches of the Municipal Library “B. P. Hasdeu”.

At the end of the campaign, the most active participants will be rewarded based on the number of books they have read and their involvement in the program. The organizers have prepared diplomas and prizes, and the winners will be designated at the Readers’ Gala, an event that will mark the end of the contest.
