]]> A commemorative coin dedicated to Sergiu Radautanu, the first rector of the Technical University of Moldova, has been issued by the National Bank of Moldova. The numismatic piece marks 100 years since the birth of the scholar and completes the “Science and Innovation” series, reports IPN.

According to NBM, the currency honors Sergiu Radautanu, an internationally renowned scholar and specialist in the physics and chemistry of semiconductor materials. He was a full member of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova and played a significant role in the development of technical education and the formation of intellectualism in Bessarabia.

The institution mentions that Sergiu Radautanu has published over a thousand scientific papers and has been distinguished throughout his career with numerous awards and honorary titles, including the “Order of the Republic” and the title of “Eminent Man of Science”.

The coin is made of silver, has a nominal value of 50 lei, and a circulation of 500 copies. Its design is signed by Georgeta Vrabie. Each piece is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the NBM governor, Anca Dragu. The coins can be obtained by submitting an online request on the official page of the institution or through licensed banks in Moldova.
