The General Inspectorate for Migration issued, in the first half of the year, about 15 thousand documents, including visas, invitations, and residence permits for foreign citizens who came to the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, the institution’s employees responded to over 10 thousand phone requests and provided advice to approximately 6500 people, in areas such as studying the Romanian language, integration into the labor market, as well as information on rights and obligations on the territory of the Republic of Moldova. The activity report of the institution was presented to the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, IPN reports.

At the legislative level, procedures intended for foreigners have been simplified, in accordance with European standards. Among the changes are regulations concerning the legal status of foreigners, the free movement of European Union citizens, citizenship documents, and visa issuance, all aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness towards beneficiaries, a press release from the institution specifies.

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Daniella Misail-Nichitin, noted that the efforts of the General Inspectorate for Migration contribute to the strengthening of security and the respect of the rights of foreigners present on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

For the upcoming period, the Inspectorate intends to develop a multifunctional center and modernize the infrastructure of accommodation centers for foreigners.

Foreign citizens can be employed in the Republic of Moldova only if they hold a work residence permit, warns the General Inspectorate for Migration. The institution reminds employers that they are obliged to comply with the current legislation, and non-compliance with these rules can lead to administrative or even criminal penalties, reports IPN.

IGM warns that if the employer decides to hire a person from another country, a clear employment contract is necessary, with the verification of the legal status of the future employee and the necessary documents.

At the same time, the inspectorate emphasizes that the illegal employment of foreigners can, in some cases, be classified as human trafficking, a fact punishable by law. Simultaneously, economic agents who comply with legal procedures contribute to creating a safe work environment, protect workers’ rights, and avoid legal risks that could affect the company’s activity.

In accordance with the law, the employer is obliged to cover even the costs of repatriating the foreign employee in case of violation of the residence regime. In this regard, the IGM encourages economic agents to properly document themselves and avoid illegal practices in the hiring process.
