The designated candidate for the position of Prime Minister, Vasile Tofan, announces that he has concluded consultations with the 16 interim ministers and that he has a clearer picture of the situation in each field. He asked the ministers to present their priorities for the next 12 months, the main issues and blockages, as well as the necessary interventions for accelerating processes, reports IPN.

During the discussions, the ministers presented information about human resources, budgets, and subordinate institutions, obligations related to European integration, as well as measures for reducing administrative costs and streamlining the Government’s activities.

“I now have a much clearer picture of the situation in each field: where there are solid teams and projects, where we need to accelerate, where there are blockages and where adjustments are needed,” said Vasile Tofan.

The designated candidate stated that the next stage aims at finalizing the composition of the governmental team, as well as consultations with political parties and representatives from various fields for the elaboration of the government program.

Vasile Tofan has been appointed as the prime ministerial candidate by President Maia Sandu, at the proposal of the Action and Solidarity Party, following the resignation of Alexandru Munteanu. After finalizing the list of ministers and the government program, he is set to seek the confidence vote of the Parliament for the inauguration of the new executive.

Children aged between 7 and 10 years old are invited on July 22, between 09:00 AM and 01:00 PM, to the financial education program “A Holiday Day at BNM”. The initiative of the National Bank of Moldova offers participants the opportunity to learn how money and the financial system work, through games and interactive workshops, reports IPN.

According to BNM, the program includes a guided tour in the exhibition hall of the institution, where children will learn about the history of the Moldovan leu and will discover the collection of jubilee and commemorative coins issued by the central bank. Participants will also take part in a practical workshop dedicated to the safety features of banknotes, where they will learn how to verify their authenticity using specialized equipment. In addition, interactive discussions will be organized about the role of the National Bank, the functioning of the economy, financial markets and the influence of modern technologies on financial services.

“Financial education begins at a young age, when children ask their first questions about money: what it is, how we use it, why we save, and how we make wise choices. Through this program, we aim to provide them with their first landmarks about money and economy, in a clear, accessible way that is close to their world,” declared the governor of the BNM, Anca Dragu.

Parents, grandparents, and teachers interested in scheduling a visit as part of the project can send a request until July 19th to the institution’s email address. The request should include the name and phone number of the accompanying person, the name and age of the child or children, as well as the educational institution, if applicable. Visits will be organized in groups of approximately 20-25 children.

The early detection of lung cancer could be possible through a pilot screening program included in the new National Cancer Control Program for the years 2026-2030. The authorities are also considering the introduction of similar methods for other types of cancer, such as prostate, gastric or skin cancer. The document, published by the Ministry of Health for public consultations, includes measures regarding the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases, reports IPN.

According to the program, the authorities aim to increase the survival rate of adult patients from 47% to 52% and reduce the number of deaths in the first year after diagnosis from 20% to 15%. For children, the goal is to decrease this indicator from 10% to less than 8%.

One of the main objectives is to reduce the time from suspicion of a disease to the confirmation of the diagnosis and the initiation of treatment. In this regard, the Ministry of Health proposes the development of specialized centers for certain types of cancer, where multidisciplinary teams will quickly establish the therapeutic approach.

The program also provides for the creation of the National Oncology Service Coordination Unit, which will electronically monitor hospital waiting lists and the interval between diagnosis and the start of treatment.

The document includes investments in radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and access to modern therapies, such as immunotherapy and targeted treatments. The Oncology Institute will remain the main center of the system, set to benefit from infrastructure development, additional equipment, and the strengthening of diagnostic and treatment capacities.

According to estimates from the Ministry of Health, the implementation of the program for the period 2026-2030 will require approximately 6.7 billion lei. Funding will come from the state budget, mandatory health insurance funds and external sources.

The European Union and UNDP Moldova support the development of green skills in the Republic of Moldova. A roadmap was presented at the Technical University of Moldova, which will form the basis of a national training program for the transition to a green economy. The initiative aims to prepare the workforce and adapt the educational system to new environmental requirements, reports IPN.

Present at the event, Jessika Roswall, the European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience, and a Competitive Circular Economy, mentioned that the green transition means building a society and an economy that can evolve and prosper for future generations. According to the official, this process begins with investments in skills and education, and the European Union can innovate and implement the green transition only if people are involved and prepared.

The Rector of UTM, Viorel Bostan, stated that the green transition requires not only new technologies, but also new skills. He emphasized that the Technical University of Moldova is constantly adapting its educational programs to provide students with the ecological skills demanded by the labor market and the economy of the future.

The roadmap was developed with the support of the European Union, within the project “Facilitating an inclusive green transition in the Republic of Moldova”, implemented by UNDP Moldova.

The tourism sector in the Republic of Moldova will benefit from investments of about 618 million lei over the next three years, as provided in the National Tourism Development Program “Tourism 2029”, approved by the Government. According to the authorities, its implementation will create approximately 5 thousand jobs and will increase the number of foreign tourists visiting the country, reports IPN.

According to the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, the program aims to develop rural, wine, cultural, ecological, and business tourism, as well as modernize infrastructure and digitize services. Additionally, plans are in place to improve access to at least seven tourist destinations and to exploit a minimum of ten areas with tourism potential by 2029.

The program also provides for at least five regional and international partnerships for promoting the Republic of Moldova on external markets and exchanging best practices. Among the planned actions are the development of the tourism register, promoting online reservations, and improving the accessibility of tourist infrastructure for people with disabilities.

According to estimates, revenues from accommodation and public catering could increase by about 149%, and those from air transport by approximately 89%, due to the increase in tourist flow and the extension of stay duration. The number of accommodated tourists is expected to rise from around 162 thousand to 300 thousand.

At the same time, revenues from tourist services offered to non-residents are estimated to rise from approximately 740 million to 900 million dollars. The authorities maintain that these developments will have positive effects on the economy and will contribute to the creation of new jobs.

The program’s funding will be provided from the state budget and external funds.

The Day of the Dniester will be marked on Sunday by a cultural-artistic program that will include folk performances, parades, workshops and activities dedicated to local traditions and biodiversity. The events, organized in the city of Stefan Voda and the village of Talmaza in the Stefan Voda district, will take place within the framework of the International Festival “Dance of the Dniester Fires”, reports IPN.

According to the program announced by the Ministry of Environment, the events will kick off in the first part of the day in Stefan Voda, with a parade of delegations and folk ensembles in traditional costumes, followed by greeting messages and the Festival Dance.

At noon, the participants will head towards the village of Talmaza, where, on the banks of the Nistru, the current edition of the festival will be officially inaugurated.

The program will continue with dance performances held by ensembles from the Republic of Moldova and abroad, workshops of traditional crafts, exhibitions of folk craftsmen and local creators, activities for children and a gastronomic area with traditional dishes. Also, guided tours dedicated to the biodiversity of the Nistrul de Jos region are planned.

In conclusion, diplomas and trophies will be awarded to the participants, and the „Hora comună de pe Vatra Nistrului” (Common Hora from the Nistru Hearth) will mark the end of the event. From 7:00 PM, the audience will be able to attend a concert performed by the Lupii lui Calancea band.

The Day of the Dniester is celebrated in the Republic of Moldova, on the last Sunday of May, starting from 2008, with the aim of promoting the importance of the river. The Dniester springs from the Carpathian Mountains (Ukraine) and flows into the Black Sea through the Dniester Estuary.
