According to the Government, the purpose of the contest is to strengthen the capacities of NGOs, so that they can actively participate in public life, promote good practices and ensure their sustainability.

Eligible are non-commercial organizations with experience in training and mentoring programs. They must ensure a personal contribution of at least 10% of the project value, refundable after the approval of the final report.

The files can be submitted until April 30. The total budget available is 400 thousand lei, and the selected projects will be implemented by December 1.

“We want young teachers to feel that they are not alone at the beginning of their journey. Through this program, the Ministry of Education and Research and the National Institute for Education and Leadership become partners of the teaching staff, offering them tools and real contexts for professional growth,” mentioned State Secretary Valentina Olaru, during an evaluation session attended by young specialists.

The mentorship program aims to enhance the training of young specialists and strengthen the professional skills acquired in universities and pedagogical colleges. Throughout the current academic year, two exchange experience camps will also be organized for young people recently employed in the education system.

The Ministry of Education and Research specifies that, this year, more young people were hired in schools and kindergartens, confirming the upward trend of the last years: 404 young people in 2024, 365 in 2023, and 296 in 2022.

The program is organized by the Office for Diaspora Relations, in partnership with the Alliance of Native Associations, and includes mentoring sessions, consultancy provided by experts, as well as exchanges of experience between associations, for the development of common initiatives.

According to the association, a significant number of young people in the Republic of Moldova are unemployed, not in education, and face economic and social isolation. The program is aimed specifically at them, offering them the chance to interact for three months—September, October, and November—with volunteer mentors from the diaspora, who will share their professional and personal experiences with them.

The initiative has two main objectives: to develop the skills and employability of young people and to leverage the diaspora as a strategic partner in the development of the Republic of Moldova, according to a press release. Young people will receive support in identifying a suitable educational and professional path, tailored to the current requirements of the labor market.

The pilot program will involve at least 50 young men and women from the Republic of Moldova and 20 volunteer mentors from the diaspora. The professionals come from fields such as IT, entrepreneurship, education, engineering, marketing, arts, and green economy.

The mentoring sessions will take place online, through a dedicated digital platform. Each participant will work with three different mentors in individual sessions. Throughout the program, networking events will also be organized, attended by mentors, young people, employers, NGOs, and public institutions.

“The Youth Compass program brings a new approach to youth initiatives in the Republic of Moldova, harnessing the potential of the diaspora as a strategic partner. We are not talking about financial support, but about people who invest their time, knowledge, and energy to inspire the younger generation. Mentoring helps young people discover their skills, formulate realistic dreams, and make informed choices for their future”, said Angela Ciocirlan, founder of the “Faclia” association and program coordinator.

One of the volunteer mentors, Dinu Bors, says he joined the initiative because, at the beginning of his career, he would have liked to have had someone to guide him. “Young people can learn from professionals in the diaspora how to follow their dreams, how to adapt their skills to market requirements, and how to have the courage to experiment. It’s a way for us who have left to bring some of our experience back home,” said the mentor.

The program is open to young people from all over the country, with a focus on the districts of Soroca, Edinet, Ungheni, Orhei, Cahul, Balti municipality, as well as Moldovan professionals from the diaspora. Those interested can register online by filling out the forms available on the project website.
