Starting from April 1st, over 669 thousand pensioners and approximately 88 thousand social allowance beneficiaries will receive an increase in pensions and social aid. This year, the indexing will be 6.84%, reports IPN.

The General Director of the National House of Social Insurance, Elena Tibirna, explained the legal provisions and the mechanism of annual pension indexing. “On April 1, as provided by law, the CNAS carries out the pension indexing. Indexing represents the updating of the pension’s purchasing power to the current reality. Indexing takes place based on the inflation index at the end of the previous year”, stated the head of the CNAS during the “Obiectiv Comun” show on TVR Moldova.

Elena Tibirna explained how beneficiaries can calculate their pension increase, taking into account the inflation rate. “This year we recorded an inflation of 6.84%. Therefore, each pension beneficiary, to know how much the pension in lei will be indexed, should multiply it by 6.84 and this will be the pension increase as a result of indexing”, Elena Tibirna specified.

She presented the total number of beneficiaries targeted by this indexing, including those receiving social allowances. “The total number of pension beneficiaries is just over 669 thousand. For the age limit, the number of beneficiaries is 523 thousand. In addition, there is also an increase in state allowances. There are 88 thousand beneficiaries of state allowances. These are people who do not benefit from a pension, because they did not meet the conditions, and then the state guarantees them a state social allowance, which is also indexed”, noted the head of CNAS.

The daily allowances for children left without parental care will increase from 25 to 27 lei, starting from April 1. At the same time, the funds for the maintenance of people accommodated in social institutions will also be increased. The measure was approved during Wednesday’s cabinet meeting, reports IPN.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection mentions that the allowances will be indexed by 6.84%, and the increases target both daily payments and the amounts granted for special days. Thus, the allowance for the child’s birthday will increase from 204 to 218 lei, and for holidays – from 145 to 155 lei.

These payments benefit children left without parental care, placed in social services, such as professional parental assistance, family-type children’s homes, or placement centers. In 2025, approximately 2,400 children benefited from this allowance.

At the same time, with the same percentage, the expenditure standards for the maintenance of people in social institutions will also be increased. The funds are used for food, medicine, clothing and other daily necessities. The list of targeted institutions also includes centers for the protection of victims of domestic violence.

The Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Natalia Plugaru, specified that there will also be an additional fixed increase, so that the total increase in benefits should reach around 8%, reports IPN.

Natalia Plugaru emphasizes that after the application of indexing, the minimum old-age pension is expected to reach 3,264 lei. For individuals with a contribution period of at least 40 years, the pension will exceed 3,500 lei.

According to the draft resolution prepared by the MMPS, the additional increase in pensions amounts to 51.33 lei. The Minister explains that, in total, taking into account the indexing and the fixed increase, pensions will rise by approximately 8%.

In the case of disability pensions, according to the project, the minimum values will be: 2,448 lei for severe disability, 2,285 lei for accentuated disability, and 1,632 lei for medium disability.

Pensions in the Republic of Moldova will be indexed by 6%. The announcement was made by Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu. According to the head of the executive, this increase will exceed the inflation rate, estimated at 4%, which means a real increase in income for pensioners, reports IPN.

In the context of high natural gas bills, Alexandru Munteanu explained that the price of gas is influenced by trends in international markets, and authorities cannot directly intervene on it.

“The price of gas is dictated by global developments. What we need to do is increase people’s incomes, their wages. We promised to raise the salaries of public employees, but we had to sacrifice some things. We chose to increase investments. We invested in the future”, declared the Prime Minister during the “Bună seara” show on the public television station.

The head of the Government emphasized that many families benefit from compensations to cope with the high expenses of the cold season, but admitted that the support provided is not enough. “Many families have received compensations and have been helped. I understand that it may not be enough. We tried to help the most vulnerable”, said Alexandru Munteanu.

In this context, the prime minister announced that, in March, the Government will come with the official decision to index pensions by 6%. “We will come with the announcement of indexing in March. The indexing will be 6%. The inflation rate drops below 4%. This means that there will be a real increase in income. Compared to inflation, there will be an increase in pensions”, the prime minister further stated.

The allowance granted at the birth of a child will reach 21,886 lei next year, an increase of 536 lei. At the same time, children up to two years old will continue to receive a monthly allowance of one thousand lei, an amount that is maintained from 2022. These provisions can be found in the draft law of the state social insurance budget (BASS) for the year 2026, voted by Parliament in the first reading, reports IPN.

The project also establishes the indexing of pensions and social benefits by 6.8%, starting from April 1, 2026. According to the document, over 665 thousand people will benefit from pensions next year.

The state social insurance budget for 2026 is estimated at 51.45 billion lei, both in terms of revenue and expenditure, representing an increase of 4.2% compared to the current year. The largest part of the expenditure is intended for the protection of elderly people, for whom over 34 billion lei are provided.

The document also provides for increasing funds to support vulnerable families, persons with disabilities, and children, as well as investments in social services. Among these are the creation of 2 thousand new nursery places and the expansion of the network of centers for victims of domestic violence. The project is to be examined by Parliament in the second reading.
