“I went out into the yard and overheard a conversation between some people. After a few minutes, a gunshot was fired, then, after several attempts to reload the weapon, a second shot followed, after which an unknown car sped off to the south, leaving the city. Fortunately, neither I nor any members of my family were harmed,” the mayor clarified.

Alexandru Bujorean contacted the Emergency Service 112 and filed statements with the Police, accompanied by a complaint for the investigation of the circumstances.

“I qualify this case as an attempt at intimidation, in my capacity as a candidate for the mayor’s office of Leova city. In collaboration with the investigation bodies, I will make every effort to identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice. I send a clear message to the perpetrators and their instigators: I will not yield to your pressures and you will be criminally liable for the stress caused to my family this night,” added Bujorean.

The new local elections in Leova will take place on November 16, as a result of the voluntary amalgamation process, through which three villages in the district have joined the city.

Residents of Tiraspol and neighboring localities have reported seeing bright lights in the sky and hearing noises typical of detonations. In the absence of official information, there was speculation among the population that it could be military exercises. Images and video recordings were posted on social networks on Tuesday evening, July 22. The local press, controlled by the Tiraspol administration, did not report on the situation in any way.

The area known as the “Cazarma Rosie” in Tiraspol sparked a mild interest, from where, according to witnesses, one could clearly see gunshots. In that area, there are two important military objectives: a base of the so-called Russian operative troop group and a military unit, subordinate to the Transnistrian security structures.

An official announcement regarding the organization of some maneuvers was made only today, July 23, but with reference to another village in the region.

Chisinau immediately reacted after the incident on the night of July 22. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Roman Rosca, promised that the authorities will investigate the circumstances in which the gunfire took place. Mariana Sarî, senior advisor at the Reintegration Office, stated that the Moldovan authorities were not informed about the maneuvers, as they took place outside the Security Zone. Former Deputy Prime Minister Alexandru Flenchea described the actions of non-constitutional structures as illegal and reminded that foreign troops are present on the territory of the Republic of Moldova, which is not under the control of the authorities in Chisinau.
