Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has demonstrated that the Black Sea represents an essential frontier for a new security architecture of Europe. The statement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popsoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, at the opening of the Security Conference in the Black Sea region, organized in Chisinau under the auspices of the International Crimea Platform, reports IPN.

According to the official, Moscow continues to use the Black Sea to limit freedom of navigation and fuel tensions in the region, including by maintaining conflicts. He drew attention to the direct security risks for the Republic of Moldova, such as repeated violations of airspace by Russian missiles and drones, as well as hybrid threats – cyber attacks, disinformation and energy blackmail.

The Ukrainian Foreign Minister, Andrei Sibiha, stated that security in the Black Sea region is essential for global stability. “The Black Sea must become a sea of peace and security again”, mentioned the official, who participated in the online event.

Andrei Sibiha highlighted the strategic role of states such as Turkey, Romania, Moldova and Bulgaria in strengthening regional security. Additionally, the official emphasized that the liberation of Crimea is essential for long-term security in the region.

The Minister of Defense, Anatolie Nosatii, stated that the Republic of Moldova is strengthening its defense capabilities and aligning its army with NATO standards, with the support of Western partners. He mentioned that the country’s objective of joining the European Union and integrating into the European security architecture implies solidarity, unity, and constant investments in the field of defense.

The event brings together high-ranking officials from the region and international partners, in a context marked by the war triggered by Russia against Ukraine and by major changes in the European security architecture.
