In the next two days, on the 29th and 31st of October, all civil status subdivisions in multifunctional centers, as well as the Audience and Civil Status Document Release Directorate, will suspend their activities, no requests being received during this interval.

The measures aim to ensure the implementation of the new Information System “Civil Status Acts”, which will become operational from November 3, in the context of the new law on civil status acts, which comes into force on November 1.

With the launch of the “Civil Status Acts” information system, individuals with electronic signatures will be able to remotely request the registration of a birth or marriage, without the need to present themselves at the counters of the Public Services Agency. In the case of emergency marriages, couples will no longer be required to present documents confirming their inability to be in the country for 30 days.

Civil status documents issued in electronic format will have a digital verification code, thus allowing direct access for authorities requesting them, including from outside the country.

The Public Services Agency specifies that all civil status documents issued by the institution – certificates, extracts or duplicates – will bear a unique name: “Extract from the civil status document”.

The changes also target a territorial aspect. Until now, documents could only be requested at the civil status subdivision within the domicile area. After implementing the new system, citizens will be able to appeal to any territorial civil status subdivision of the ASP.

The exchange of data between authorities will be carried out through the MConnect platform, sparing citizens the obligation to physically present documents that are already available in official informational resources.
