“I am very pleased to be here and to express my gratitude once again for the partnership and support given to the Republic of Moldova from the very beginning, as well as for supporting our path of integration into the European Union,” declared President Maia Sandu at the meeting with her Estonian counterpart.

In addition to discussions with President Karis, the head of state has scheduled meetings with Prime Minister Kristen Michal and the Speaker of the Parliament, Lauri Hussar. She will also talk with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, and the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Foreign Affairs, Marko Mihkelson.

At the same time, President Maia Sandu will participate in the annual “Lennart Meri” conference, an event dedicated to foreign policy and security, hosted in Tallinn.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency, the visit aims to deepen bilateral cooperation, with a focus on regional security and the accession process of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.

The head of state expressed her gratitude for the openness and constant support offered by the authorities in Rome to the Moldovan community in Italy and for the firm support of the European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova. The President emphasized the importance of continuing reforms and close collaboration to advance in the accession process.

Additionally, Maia Sandu welcomed the implementation of the social security agreement between the two countries and the entry into force of the agreement on the recognition of driving licenses. According to her, such measures directly contribute to the protection of rights and facilitate the integration of Moldovan citizens residing in Italy.

The itinerary of the visit includes meetings with President Maia Sandu, with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu and with the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popsoi.

According to the MAE, the discussions will also address regional security developments, in the context of Lithuania’s support for Moldova’s European integration process.

At the same time, a joint press conference of the foreign ministers is scheduled for Friday, between 12:35 PM and 12:55 PM, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
