The works aimed at renovating the pool and the interior spaces, the filtration and water treatment stations, as well as the heating system. Additionally, the changing rooms, showers, and sanitary groups were modernized, and the technical installations were completely replaced.

The pool, located behind the Government House, will be used in the training process of sports profile students, as well as for athletes’ training. It has six swimming lanes and measures 25 by 16 meters.

The modernization works cost a total of approximately 18 million lei. The largest part of the investment was covered by the budget of the Ministry of Education and Research, which allocated 16.5 million lei, the difference being provided by the university.

The patient is 63 years old and was diagnosed with a malignant tumor in the pelvis, about ten years after treatment for cervical cancer. The tumor removal surgery, followed by hip joint prosthesis, allowed the preservation of the leg. Four months after the surgery, the patient is able to move on her own and can undergo chemotherapy, an essential part of oncological treatment.

“The accomplishment of this operation marks an important moment in the development of oncological surgery in the Republic of Moldova and opens new treatment perspectives for oncological patients with rare and severe pathologies, for whom the therapeutic options were until recently limited”, is stated in a press release from the institution.

The intervention was carried out by doctors Andrei Olaru, Victor Ciuperca, Gheorghe Buruiana and Iulian Stefaniuc.
