A company from the Republic of Moldova is being investigated for the illegal export of dual-use equipment to entities in the Russian Federation under international sanctions. As part of the case, PCCOCS prosecutors and officers from the Information and Security Service conducted searches at the company’s headquarters and at the residences of the targeted individuals, reports IPN.

According to SIS and the Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Causes, the scheme would have been operational since 2022 and would have targeted the export of control and measurement systems for training and combat aircraft engines to companies affiliated with the Russian Federation’s military-industrial complex. The total value of exports exceeds 21 million lei.

Law enforcement officials claim that in order to conceal the real destination of the goods, they were declared to customs authorities as “waste recycling devices”, and the ultimate beneficiary was concealed through a company established in the Russian Federation.

Following the six searches carried out on June 24, law enforcement officials seized components of control and measurement systems, computer equipment, mobile phones, technical documents and contracts deemed relevant for the investigation. The goods and documents are to be subjected to expert analysis and examined as part of the criminal investigation.

The first airplane entirely made in the Republic of Moldova was launched at the Vadul lui Voda aerodrome, reports IPN.

Under the watchful eyes of dozens of spectators, the VANS airplane can reach a speed of over 320 km/h. The aircraft has a flight range of up to 1,400 kilometers, at altitudes of three to four kilometers. Constructed from over 600 parts and tens of thousands of rivets, the device took shape in a workshop in Chisinau, where work is already underway on a second version.

The two-seater sports aircraft is the result of four years of work by pilots and aviation enthusiasts Oleg Burlacu and Sergiu Crețu, who say that the project marks the beginning of a new stage for Moldovan aviation.

“It is very important for young people to be motivated to dream and create here, at home,” said pilot Sergiu Cretu, emphasizing that the accumulated experience will make the next device be built faster.

The event was also attended by President Maia Sandu, who appreciated the initiative as evidence that the Republic of Moldova has people with potential and innovative spirit. “The Republic of Moldova needs as much innovation as possible, people who believe in their power, who aspire to start large and serious projects,” Maia Sandu declared for TRM.

The value of the airplane exceeds 200 thousand euros, and its creators say they will continue to invest in the development of Moldovan aviation.
