The leader of the Communist Party (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin climbed six spots to the fourth in the September rakings of the most influential politicians. Another surprise is the return of the chairman of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu to the Top 10. The rankings are compiled by the Institute for Political Analysis and Consultancy “Politicon” based on assessments by independent experts, IPN reports.
The rankings are topped by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca. By tradition, he was a key politician on the Moldovan political area, especially after the Leanca Government assumed responsibility before Parliament for the implementation of a new package of laws.
The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat ranks second, as usual. According to the experts, Filat did prodigious work at foreign level, paying very important strategic visits for Moldova to Germany and the U.S.
Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman climbed to the third place. She continues to be one of the most efficient ministers and, respectively, one of the most influential politicians.
The fourth spot is taken by Vladimir Voronin. His climb is explained by the fact that in September Moldova entered the electoral period, while the leader of the Moldovan Communists is a politician with evident electoral potential.
Head of Parliament Igor Corman slipped two spots mainly because Parliament didn’t start to work normally and held only one sitting. Therefore, he was less visible than usual.
The leader of the Democratic Party (PDM) Marian Lupu returned to the Top 10. He climbed seven spots to the sixth owing to the dynamism of the internal work done by the party, supported by a broad media campaign. The experts forecast that Marian Lupu during the election campaign will occupy upper positions.
President Nicolae Timofti slipped slightly to the seventh spot. In the election period, the head of state plays a less visible role in the Moldovan politics and remains in shadow more.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca occupies traditionally a spot in the second part of the Top 10 rankings. As in August, in September he ranked eights. Commentators said Dorin Chirtoaca missed the chance of returning to the first part of the Top 10 because the recent congress of the Liberal Party (PL) didn’t choose him as chairman of the party.
The first deputy chairman of the PDM Vladimir Plahotniuc ranks ninth, as in August. Traditionally, experts class Plahotniuc, who holds no state post, as one of the most influential politicians in Moldova.
Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov during the last few months became one of the most influential politicians in Moldova. He comes tenth in the September rankings. The importance of agriculture for Moldova and the pressure exerted on this sector by Russia, together with the good performance of the Moldovan minister, make Bumacov to be one of the most influential Moldovan politicians.
As to the most influential political parties in September, the PLDM heads the list, being followed by its government partner PDM and the two parties from the parliamentary opposition – the PCRM and PL. The commentators said that namely these four parties will be the protagonists in the coming parliamentary elections. The list continues with the Party of Socialists, the Liberal Reformist Party, the People’s Movement “Antimafie”, the National Liberal Party, the People’s Party, and the Christian-Democratic People’s Party.
