The situation in Stefan Voda district is difficult owing to the elements. Access to half of the 26 villages of the district remains blocked following the blizzard. Head of Stefan Voda district Nicolae Molozea has told IPN that the ambulances arrive at patients with difficulty, while the stores of food products could be used up soon.

Six villages of the district remain partially disconnected from the power supply. According to the district’s head, the specialized services work continuously to unblock the roads and ensure access. “We make effort to cope with the situation, but it is hard because the local roads in villages are blocked and these do not have access to highways,” said Nicolae Molozea.

He also said that despite the blizzard conditions, the ambulance service continued to work, but with difficulty. “In eight of the 17 cases of intervention, the ambulances got stuck in the snow. The ambulances carried overall 25 persons, four of whom were pregnant women. All the patients were transported to the hospital,” stated Nicolae Molozea.

Last night, an 11-year-old child with appendicitis needed medical assistance. The ambulance reached him in 10 hours of the made call. The minor was ultimately taken to the hospital. “They are now trying to reach Marianca de Jos village, where the road is blocked. A person from this village needs to be transported to Chisinau for dialysis,” said the head of Stefan Voda district.

He added that 20 schools in the district were closed temporarily. Only five schools in the 13 blocked villages continue to work. There are stores, but problems related to the supply of foods products will appear if the roads are not unblocked by the evening of January 19.

Seven villages in Causeni district are also isolated. Contacted by IPN, the district’s head Ion Ciontoloi said there were no emergency situations during the last two days.
