Prime Minister Pavel Filip requested to carry out an analysis to identify the children without identification papers and to review the normative framework concerning the costs associated with the issuing of birth certificates to Moldovan children born abroad. The requests were made in a meeting of the National Council for Child Rights Protection on April 5, IPN reports.

The meeting discussed such subjects as the registration of the child’s birth, social and medical protection of newborns and early intervention services intended for children. “The protection and promotion of children’s rights is a priority for the Government. I’m convinced that the National Council for Child Rights Protection will be a stimulating factor in the process of developing, updating and implementing policies with an impact on children. In fact, in the cooperation with the development and social dialogue partners, we will make sure that the implementation of policies in the supreme interest of the child is monitored,” stated Pavel Filip.

Special attention was devoted to the safety of children in the online environment. In this connection, the Premier asked the Ministry of Education to include online safety training subjects in the school programs on a mandatory basis. He also instructed working out a plan of action for promoting online child safety.

The meeting participants examined and approved the plan of action for 2016 for solving the problems faced in the education sector. This includes urgent measures aimed at improving access to education, ensuring balanced food, fighting abandonment and school nonattendance, provision with skilled staff, efficient district school management and child transportation.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the development partners UNICEF, USAID, the EU Delegation to Moldova, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and of a number of NGOs working in the field.
