SMURD center in Balti receives five ambulances from Romania

The Government of Romania donated new ambulances outfitted with the necessary equipment to the pilot-center SMURD located in Balti town. The vehicles are matchless in Moldova and will be managed by paramedics of the Units of Rescuers and Firefighters in concert with doctors and assistants of the Ministry of Health, IPN reports.

The donation was made during Romanian Prime Minister Victor Ponta’s visit to Moldova. “This donation of five ambulances to Moldova will represent the starting base for this experimental module. We are very proud of the Romanian SMURDs that daily save lives. We want Moldova to also have such a service. We hope our experience will help Moldova,” stated Victor Ponta.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said it is a generation donation on the part of Romania. “These are some of the most modern ambulances and we should also have such centers. It’s a pilot project and I’m convinced that we will extend it,” he stated.

The first SMURD center set up in Balti will provide emergency medical assistance within crossborder operations, with Romania’s support. Therefore, Romania will offer assistance in developing the medical and paramedical component of the emergency service of Moldova and the capacity to train personnel in the field and in ensuring the logistics needed in emergency medical care operations.
