A number of persons, among whom is a former employee of the Public Services Agency, are investigated for implementing a corruption scheme by which driver’s licenses were issued illegally. They allegedly manipulated the information system through which urgent appointments were scheduled and influenced members of the examination commissions to issue driver’s licenses in breach of the law, the National Anticorruption Center has said, being quoted by IPN.

The group members purportedly collected €350 to €500 from applicants for driver’s licenses for making urgent appointments and for helping these pass the tests. The criminal case was started based on at least nine episodes of passive corruption, influence peddling and active corruption.

In the morning of October 20, anticorruption prosecutors and officers carried out searches at the homes of suspects, both civil servants and persons who gave bribe, and seized documents from the Public Services Agency. The suspects face five to ten years in jail.
